If you are in the neighbourhood of Cluj-Napoca, Romania and you are a mineral fan you should take the opportunity of visiting the Mineralogical Museum of Babes-Bolyai University! Here you can find the most diverse and representative mineral collection in Transylvania!
You may even think about taking a closer look to this part of Romania starting with our academic town. The Mineralogical Museum is very easy to find, being located in the very centre of Cluj-Napoca!

Originally the museum was founded as a teaching collection, thus a place for basic and comparative study of minerals mainly addressing students in geology and professional geologists. Recently (2002) it was opened to the public. Since then, school groups (primary, secondary and high school level) represent most of our visitors; for them, some special attractive projects have been specially designed!

Some of the collections in the museum are of a remarkable value, as shown below:
• the only meteorite collection in Romania
• the third Romanian gold collection, according to size and mineralogical diversity
• one of the largest and varied gems collection in the country
• the richest and most complete collection of Romanian gems
• the largest number of mineral species in a systematic exhibit in Romanian museums
• a great variety of classical mineral occurrences from Romania and abroad
